Clubs

There are likely to be many different kinds of clubs and groups near where you live. Find out about them for yourself or ask an adult to help you. Most libraries have a community guide which is available for you to keep or look at. This will tell you what is available and give contact telephone numbers and addresses. You can also look on the internet. Some internet addresses are given below.

Joining a club of some kind can:
· Help you make new friends
· Give you something to do
· Increase your knowledge and/or interests
· Build up your skills
· Develop your potential

Below is a list of some of the clubs and organizations that you may be able to join.


Rock Solid Youth Club - for 9 - 13-year olds

This is a middle year school club run by Churches Together in Sandown with input from Youth for Christ.

Tuesdays/Term time at the Youth & Community Centre, Grafton Street.

Beaver Scouts - are young people usually aged between 6 and 8 years old. Beaver Scouts enjoy making friends, playing games, going on visits and helping others. They usually meet together once a week in a Beaver Scout Colony. Some Beaver Scout Colonies organize sleepovers. For more information visit www.scoutbase.org.uk/6to25/beaver/intro.htm.

Cub Scouts - is for slightly older boys . There are loads of fun things to do. You will get a chance to try lots of different activities like swimming, music, exploring, computing and collecting. You will also get to go on trips to places like the zoo, theme parks or a farm. Sometimes you will be able to go camping with the rest of your Pack. Rainbows - for girls aged 5 - 9. They are a younger version of Brownies. Rainbows get together once a week to play games, sing song, make things, cook up recipes and listen to stories. If it's sunny they can do all of this outside. There's always tons to do and it's great seeing all your friends! Sometimes they visit special places. Brownies - are for girls aged 7 or over. A Brownie Pack meets most weeks. The pack is made up of small groups called Sixes. A Six is a group of friends that have lots of fun together. There are Ventures, badges, journeys, Brownie holidays or camp.

Badgers (Junior Members of St. John Ambulance)
Badgers, aged 6 - 10 are the youngest volunteers in St. John Ambulance and they meet at least once a week. First Aid instruction and practice is combined with activities such as outdoor pursuits and field trips. Topics covered range from cooking and gardening to basic First Aid. The Boys Brigade and the Girls Brigade - are both Christian youth organizations. They are mainly about having fun and learning how to get the best out of life, but other benefits include:

· Giving you opportunities to serve your community
· Developing any leadership qualities that you may possess
· Taking responsibility
· Teaching you new skills
· Providing you with a firm foundation for the future
· Helping you gain confidence
