Meet the Island Day Nursery staff, who look after
the children and their welfare
It is the policy of this Nursery that every member of staff who works
here holds an Early Years Childcare qualification (minimum NVQ Level 2)
or are actively training for one, while on placement here as a student.
All our staff hold a Criminal Records Bureau certificate and we update
each of these every two years.
With the help of the LEA Early Years Support Team, we are seeking to
raise the standards required of us under new Government guidelines by
employing staff with higher levels of childcare qualification. We are
also encouraging existing staff ‘to take another step up the
professional ladder’, on part time release schemes.
If you want to learn more about these initiatives check them out on the

Meet our trainees
We have a policy to have no more than four long term students on
attachment, and try to ensure that we restrict their attendance time
such that we have no more than three of them here at any one time. We
draw these students from two training centres on the Isle of Wight:
West Wight Training, FNTC Newport and The Isle of Wight College.
We have recently made the decision not to take short term student
placements or work experience staff.
